What a way to celebrate!

Mariah Osypchuck’s Shimmering Smiles Dental business at Bryne Dr and Mills St is celebrating its second year of business.

She wanted to have a party to celebrate. She also wanted to benefit a charity and raise consciousness at the same time. And, if she could involve the business community… well, all the better!

Thus, the Great Tooth Race, and it’s held from 1 to 4 this Saturday. And all the money raised goes to the Rainbows for all Children Program. It’s open to the general public.

In keeping with Mariah’s family practice, this is a family event, built on a series of clues that take participants from one business to another business, with over $1,000 in prizes at the end.

So, here’s how it works… you can

1. call Shimmering Smiles (705 718-8395), or

2. register at www.facebook.com/shimmeringsmiles [click on events and join] or

3. stop in at 566 Bryne Dr to register.

You can also register Saturday between 12 noon and 1 pm. Because this is designed for families, cost is $1 per person to participate. Upon registration you’ll receive a passport and your first clue. Once you find that business, you’ll receive a passport sticker and your second clue. At each business you’ll do an activity or participate in a fun event. You work your way around the south end until you’ve visited all 10 businesses, the final clue taking you back to Shimmering Smiles.

“We know it’s a Saturday in the Christmas season, so we’ve planned the route very carefully to avoid traffic,” says Mariah. The clues range from pictures, to phrases to hints.

Once participants have returned to Shimmering Smiles, there’s a grand prize of $500 in cash plus five more prizes of $100 each. There are gift certificate draws and all of that begins at 4 pm.

“When we began to plan this, we were aiming for 10 family teams but we already have way more than that,” says Mariah. She hopes to raise $1500 to $2000 for Rainbows.

The Shimmering Smiles team is very enthusiastic about this celebration. While dental hygiene is the main activity, full dental services are also available. A second dentist will begin working in the clinic shortly and Mariah recently added a second hygienist. She says her client base is mostly families and business people, so she hopes everyone comes prepared to have fun.

None of this would have happened without the participating businesses (who have to go unnamed at this point) or without the terrific passport design by Michael Trapani of Incube 8 Creative.

It’s a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon as a family, that’s for sure! What a great way to celebrate a milestone!

Thanks, Mariah!
